Gowan, Thomas Lead Chargers’ 3-Point Attack in Win at Sauk

Freshmen Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) and Kellian Thomas (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) combined to knock down nine 3-pointers in leading the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team to a 62-59 victory at Sauk Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Gowan drained five 3s and finished with a game-best 18 points, while Thomas hit four from long distance to account for all 12 of his points. Freshman Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) added two 3s and 11 points for the Chargers (15-6, 2-1), who made 12 triples in the contest.

Sandburg held on after taking a 31-29 edge into halftime, giving the Chargers their fourth win in the last five games.

Sandburg will go for its fourth straight victory when it plays at Illinois Valley at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
